Apple/Pear Sauce
There are only so many ways to eat an apple or pear: pies, tarts, cakes, poached, baked, even raw; however, none of those appealed to me on this day. I had some pears that were past their prime and I like them to be almost crispy to eat them raw after a certain point it has a grainy texture I just don’t like.
So I made it into “apple sauce”. It is very simple to make and you control all the sugar and spices. Make it with apples, or pears or add berries, or cinnamon, or ginger. I added brown sugar to mine, but you could add honey or molasses, you choose.
Ingredients
6 ripe pears, peeled, cored and cut into 1 inch pieces
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Method
- Place cut pieces of fruit in a medium-sized sauce pan with the sugar and cinnamon.
- Cook until the fruit is soft when pierced with a fork, stirring occasionally.
- Mash with a potato masher, or use an immersion blender or even a regular blender and process until smooth.
- Eat warm or let cool, then chill in the fridge for a refreshing healthy snack.
